ICONS News Roundup Late November/Early December 2012

Hey folks, sorry I've been quiet lately. I'm just getting over a very nasty cold that took me out of circulation for the last two weeks. Thought I'd catch up today with some recent ICONS news.

The big story in ICONS right now has to be Ad Infinitium Adventures' Kickstarter for ICONS: Great Power! by Steve Kenson. This sourcebook presents dozens of powers, new and old, along with power stunts and limits, more details on how to use powers, and how to look at renaming (or "reskinning") them to make "new" powers with the same essential mechanics. If you make a pledge to this Kickstarter now, you will receive instant access to the playtest draft of Great Power and get to try out all the new goodness inside immediately. The good news is that this Kickstarter was funded within 24 hours so it's going to happen. It's great to see that there is still a lot of enthusiasm for ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying and a resurgence of interest in the game going into 2013!

Steve Kenson recently stopped by the BAMF! Podcast to discuss Great Power with host Mike Lafferty, Walt Robillard and Stacey Montgomery, so check it out!

Ad Infinitium Adventures recently released Casino of Corruption, a new 33-page PDF adventure for ICONS written by H.M. "Dain" Lybarger and illustrated by ICONS line artist Dan Houser. A mysterious series of crimes plagues the city! A new group of gambling-themed villains are staging daring robberies, but there is more than meets the eye to these new crimes and criminals, a connection the an underground casino where patrons bet their lives and very souls! This is Ad Infinitium Adventures' first product since taking over the ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying Game from Adamant Entertainment. Casino of Corruption is available now for $5 bucks at RPGNow and DriveThruRPG.

Fainting Goat Games has been very busy over the last couple of weeks as well. Work continues behind the scenes on Stark City (due out in early 2013), and a decision was recently made after consulting with the backers to update the stats to incorporate the new rules for powers in Great Power. While this will delay the project about four weeks, draft versions of Stark City with the original ICONS power rules will be sent to all backers on schedule. This way, fans who supported Stark City through the Kickstarter will get NPC stats for both Classic ICONS and Great Power! Fainting Goat Games has also been faithfully pumping out new Justice Wheels and Improbable Tales titles, and below are their most recent releases.

Improbable Tales: Tokyo Kaiju Chaos!
This 31-page ICONS PDF adventure was written by Mike Lafferty, Dan Houser and Curt Meyer and features artwork by Adrian Smith and Dan Houser. This action-packed adventure has it all - Giant Monsters! Giant Robots! Science Ninjas! - and contains art, maps, standees of the important NPCs and antagonists and play-tested tips on getting the most fun from the adventure. Also included is a new ICONS power, Gestalt. Tokyo Kaiju Chaos! is available now from RPGNow and DriveThruRPG for only $2.50.

Justice Wheels #13 MAKO Commander

Improbable Tales: Extraordinary Journey
Written by John Post and Andrew Cook and featuring artwork by Adrian Smith and Dan Houser, this 29-page PDF adventure was inspired by a classic Sci-Fi movie. Extraordinary Journey is a short, fun, fast-playing scenario for the ICONS RPG that is ideal for a quick evening's entertainment or to drop as a set-piece into a longer adventure, and contains art, standees of the important NPCs and antagonists and play-tested tips on getting the most fun from the adventure. Available now for only $2.50 from RPGNow and DriveThruRPG.

Justice Wheels #14 Night Hunter
This issue of Justice Wheels features Night Hunter, an eagle-eyed vigilante archer with a high-tech sky-bike. This 8-page PDF written by Jonathan Thompson with artwork by Rick Hershey contains the ICONS stats, images, and paper miniatures for one character and their signature vehicle along with tips for using them as either a hero or villain in your game. Available now from RPGNow and DriveThruRPG for only $1 buck!

It's a very exciting time for ICONS right now and the future of the game looks very bright indeed! In the next few days, I'll be sharing some of my thoughts on Great Power. Plus I'll have an announcement about a new project I'm working on for ICONS (and more!) due out in 2013! Thanks again for reading!

  1. Joe,

I hope you're okay by now, and back to good health again.

For a guy who tries to "reskin" the powers myself, I saw the opportunity to get Mr. Kenson's book passing me by. Living outside U.S., where federal laws and lack of international credit card hinder our possibilities to pledge money in products like these, I just can pray the book is available soon or the content becomes open sourced like the core book itself.
